At Hoole Church of England Primary School we see Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) as being at the centre of all that we do. PSHCE education is a non-statutory subject but is an important and necessary part of all pupils’ education. The promotion of pupils’ personal development (which includes their social development) is a fundamental aspect of education and underpins all other learning. Through our curriculum, our school environment and our school ethos, we promote pupils’ self-esteem and emotional well-being and help them to form and maintain worthwhile and satisfying relationships, based on respect for themselves and for others, at home, at school, at work and in the community.
As a school, we follow the teaching scheme ‘HeartSmart’ which are explicit, structured, whole-curriculum frameworks and resources for teaching social, emotional and behavioural skills to children, to aid our delivery of PHSE. The frameworks have been adapted by staff so that there is progression throughout the school. To encourage and promote these positive learning behaviours the 5Rs (Resilience, Reflection, Resourcefulness, Ready, Remember) will be included to equip our children with the strong interpersonal and communication skills, which will enable them to become responsible and active members of our diverse society.
At the end of each day, our children are invited to reflect upon their day during Mindful Minutes. The children share their thoughts and feelings in different ways. We are teaching the children to be mindful and be in the moment. Take a look at our thoughts and reflects so far this term.
