Year 5 Science Day Water Resistance
Date: 2nd Dec 2021 @ 3:56pm
Wow, what a busy day it has been!
During today's science day, we applied our knowledge of 'the greater the surface area, the greater the air resistance' to an investigation into water resistance. We also learned about streamlining and how this helps boats and animals to move quickly through water.
We designed and made boats and we tested them to see which would hold the most weight without sinking. Can you believe that one boat held over 1.5kg?! This was the boat with the greatest surface area. We predicted this and we were correct! Well done team!
Our final investigation was into streamlining. We created different shapes, dropped them into a cylinder of water and timed how long it took them to fall to the bottom of the water. After the investigation, we discussed if our results were trustworthy. The children came up with some great suggestions about why there were or why they weren't. We really do have super scientists in Year 5!
