National and School Led Tutoring Expenditure

SCHOOL LED TUTORING PROGRAMME

The Department for Education (DfE) committed as part of its education recovery plan, to provide financial assistance to eligible maintained schools, in accordance with section 14 of the Education Act 2002.  The additional funding was awarded in the form of tutoring grants.

The tutoring awards gives schools the flexibility in determining how best to provide additional interventions to support catch-up for lost education due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Funding Received

  • Academic year 2021/2022, £11,542.50 was awarded to cover 75% of the cost of tuition, based on an average cost of £18 per hour.
  • Academic year 2022/2023, £12,960 was awarded to cover 60% of the total costs based upon a unit cost of £18 per hour.
  • Academic year 2023/2024 - funding has ceased.

How will we use this additional funding?

  •  Summer break literacy sessions provided by Mrs Poulton.
  •  Before and after school booster groups.
  •  Additional maths, phonological and phonemic awareness sessions led by experienced personnel.

Participants are selected based upon a number of factors: impact of school closure, academic attainment, disadvantage, any other pertinent identified need.

NATIONAL LED TUTORING PROGRAMME ("NTP")

The Department for Education (DfE) launched the National Led Tutoring Programme in 2020/2021 to support pupils affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The NTP programme was based upon evidence that targeted, academic support, through highly trained personnel working with small groups and individuals, could make a difference to academic progress.

In 2021, tutors were contracted and delivered the following as part of the national led tutoring programme:

Summer 1 – English

570 hours of tuition to 38 children in Years 2 to 5 based upon personalised targets set by the class teacher.

Summer 2 – Maths

28 children from Years 2 to 5 received further tutoring support aligned to personalised targets set by the class teacher.

The amount of tuition provided was significantly impacted by the need to self-isolate by participants and tutors. Expenditure breakdown is detailed below:

The total cost of the NTP equated to:  £13,293.57

Government Rebate                             £7,820.65
